Envisaged as a Civic focal point in a new regeneration masterplan in a South East London Borough our proposals for a new Civic Centre offers the local authority a new ‘one stop shop’ face to its community.
The brief calls for a range of uses to be accommodated within the new facility including, a council chamber, political offices, committee rooms, a registry, museum space, flexible civic working desks and a public café.
Our design response was developed to ensure that the democratic processes that are undertaken within the Council chamber are visible and showcased to the community with a prominent position on the street frontage.
Providing an architectural aesthetic that is both civic and welcoming is what leads to the inclusion of a loggia within the proposals. This element faces the new public plaza that forms part of the regeneration masterplan and whilst offering presence it also provides an opportunity for passive environmental measures to be investigated.
This project is another example of our collaborative work alongside BA architects.
