12 - 14 DR

WR-AP 12-14DR Axo Render

12-14 DR is the reimagining of a ‘backland’ site in Surbiton. Situated within the curtilage of two existing Victorian Terraces, the client approached WR-AP to appraise a number of options for the site in order to provide a new 3-bedroom home with strong architectural merit, having received a planning refusal previously with another architect.

We approached this challenge through adopting a ‘retrofit first’ approach by seeking to retain the external fabric of the unused garage building and transforming it into a home that responds sensitively to its context. A simple material palette of red brick and timber have been used internally and externally, whilst considered apertures allow natural light to enhance the home whilst maintaining privacy. The scheme is soon to be submitted for planning following extensive consultation with local planners.
